Description of Mr. Wilmes' education and experience. Matthew Wilmes has been a professional educator since 2001. He graduated from Dover-Eyota High School in 1996 and then attended the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, graduating in 2000. Mr. Wilmes earned a Master's Degree in Leadership Education from Winona State University in 2018. He taught at LeRoy-Ostrander Public Schools, MN, until 2007 when he was hired at Lewiston-Altura Public Schools.

He believes strongly in music education for every child and works to make a professional, personal connection with every student. Through teaching music, Mr. Wilmes intends to inspire students with lifelong love and appreciation of music and also respectful, responsible citizens of the world. He teaches two Middle School Choirs, three Senior High Choirs, and offers individual and small group voice lessons. In addition to his teaching responsibilities,  Mr. Wilmes is a Junior Class Advisor  and Vocal Director and Accompanist for the Fall Musical.

Mr. Wilmes is an active professional in the school as a member of the High School Staff Development and the District Activities Steering Committee. He is also a dynamic leader in the broader community as President of the local teachers' union Education Minnesota - Lewiston-Altura, President of the regional educators' union Hiawatha Valley Teachers United, and an active member on statewide committees of Education Minnesota.
