Constitution Day

Center for Civic Education
This lesson explores some the ideas in the Preamble to the Constitution. Students learn the importance of the words, “We the People.” The lesson emphasizes that the power to govern belongs to the people who have created the government to protect their rights and promote their welfare. Students read the Preamble and develop definitions for the six key phrases in the document.

White House for Kids - Constitution Day
Students learned more about the Constitution and the founding fathers of our nation, including George Washington, Ben Franklin and other historical figures. You, too, can learn more about the Constitution through the links and games on this page.

Santa Clara District - Constitution Day
September 17 is Constitution Day, the birthday of our government. School and federal agencies are required to hold educational programs about the Constitution on this day. We celebrate the Constitution to remind us of the ideas that make us Americans.

Constitutional Rights Foundation
"A 2005 act of Congress states that all educational institutions receiving federal funding must observe September 17 as Constitution Day, which celebrates the 1787 signing of our founding document. According to the guidelines put forth by the Department of Education, teachers and schools are free to design Constitution Day programming that best addresses the needs of their students. Constitutional Rights Foundation is pleased to present a series of free online lessons, resources from the CRF catalog, and Internet links to help educators design their own Constitution Day program."
