LEWISTON-ALTURA HIGH SCHOOL
TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This class is designed to teach the attributes of design, the engineering design process, and how to apply the design process. Through lectures, the use of the World Wide Web, research, and lots of hands-on activities students will experience the design process.
Looking at and using materials and processes will give the students a better understanding of what takes place and is used in the manufacturing world.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
  • Students will develop an understanding of the attributes of design.
  • Students will develop an understanding of engineering design.
  • Students will develop an understanding of the role of troubleshooting, research and development, invention and innovation, and experimentation in problem solving.
  • Students will develop the abilities to apply the design process.
  • Students will develop the abilities to use and maintain technological products and systems.

COURSE OUTLINE
  • Attributes of Design
  • Problem Solving
  • Engineering Design Process
  • Materials and Processes
  • Applying the Design Process

At times students will be working with tools and are expected to complete safety test if required and act in a safe and appropriate manner. Also students will be required to supply materials for some projects from outside the school. These supplies will be inexpensive things that you probably already have at home. (If this is a problem let me know and we can work through it)
Students will be evaluated on written work, quizzes, test, hands-on projects, and participation. Students will be expected to be able to work individually as well as in large and small groups.

Participate, be safe, be creative, think outside the box, and have fun in the world of design!
