Constitutional Rights Foundation
"A 2005 act of Congress states that all educational institutions receiving federal funding must observe September 17 as Constitution Day, which celebrates the 1787 signing of our founding document. According to the guidelines put forth by the Department of Education, teachers and schools are free to design Constitution Day programming that best addresses the needs of their students. Constitutional Rights Foundation is pleased to present a series of free online lessons, resources from the CRF catalog, and Internet links to help educators design their own Constitution Day program."

Santa Clara Schools - Constitution Day

Let's Write a Newspaper Story
For a perfect activity, have students become reporters and chronicle the year's school events in a published paper! This stimulating unit on newspaper writing is hosted by the Applied Physics Laboratory at John Hopkins University. Develop students' research, writing, and editorial skills with lessons about catching graphics, and designing simple page layouts. This site includes story scenarios, sample newspapers, and tips from the pros. Students will also develop cooperative learning skills as they work together in groups.

Caldecott/Newbery Medal Winner and Honor Books videos
Video versions of several Caldecott and Newbery award winning books are available for download at this site. Files are in RealPlayer format and require the RealPlayer download available here. Once RealPlayer is installed, videos play instantly when choosing the link. (Note: Real PLAyer is a Windows program, so MAc users are out of luck.) Videos range from 6 to 20 minutes in length. Running time is displayed with titles. Titles include popular books used in elementary classroom such as Mufaro
